CHURCH SCHOOL IS ONLINE THIS WEEK (see the schedule below)
Please mail Belinda for the Zoom information at [email protected]
The theme for March is: Celebrate Communion
Celebrate Communion: Lenten Study
In Lent, we shall switch from our regular curriculum to the Follow Me curriculum. We shall explore the Celebrate Communion series which teaches that though the sharing of bread and wine is central to the identity of the Christian church, the celebration of communion is not limited to church buildings. It extends to homes and wherever people of faith gather.
Whenever we take bread, give thanks, break the bread and give it to others, we carry the celebration of communion with us into our daily lives and the world.
Each session helps children explore how the Lord’s Table is connected to all tables where hungry people are fed.
LESSON OUTLINE
March 9 – Give Thanks: Matthew 14:13-21
Children are taught to say “thank you” when they receive gifts. In this session, they will consider the many gifts God has given to them and will follow Jesus’ example by saying “thank you” to God. They will explore communion as a meal of thanksgiving and consider ways to give thanks for the meals they share at home.
March 16 – Share Meals: Luke 22:7-20
Children love celebrations that involve food. Some of their earliest memories are of family celebrations with special foods. Children experience the importance of rituals as these occasions become tradition. They can reflect upon communion as a ritual that they celebrate with their church family and continue that celebration whenever they share food with others.
March 23 – Be Fed: John 21:1-19
Children know what it is to be hungry and have someone prepare their favorite food. While they may not be aware of it, children are beginning to learn that eating satisfies more than physical hunger. Experience is teaching them that sharing food with others can be fun and can make you feel better. They know that we need more than food to grow and thrive. This session helps children think about how our minds and hearts might be hungry and how they can be fed.
March 30 – I Am the Bread of Life: John 6:25-37 (Intergenerational Event)
People of every age can identify with the satisfaction of sharing good food with special people. That experience can be connected with the ways in which Jesus, the bread of life, nourishes us at the Lord’s Table.
This will be an intergenerational event where we will make bread together and share it at the table.
Church School Schedule:
- First Sunday of the month we will meet in-person only
- All other Sundays we will meet online only
Curriculum:
We shall use the Children’s Ministry Curriculum, which is adaptable to all denominations and easy to use during in-person and online settings. Each month, we will have a new theme.
Thank you for ensuring that our children come to class and, by extension, remain active members of this community.
