WPC Clark Art Institute Tour
May 14 @ 1:30 pm$20
Please email Pastor Heather or call the church office if you are planning to attend. We will meet in Williamstown, Massachusetts (a 1 hour drive from Westminster).
Please join us at the Clark Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts (about a one-hour drive from Westminster) for an exploration of painter George Inness’s spiritually-charged masterpiece, “A Pastoral,” completed in 1894. The painting depicts a wooded landscape with a boy tending two cows–and an ethereal figure in the near distance. Inness was fascinated by the connection between the natural and the spiritual worlds, seeking in his art to connect the “visible upon the invisible.”
Our conversation about Inness will be led by Clark Institute docent Lydia Littlefield (who coincidentally grew up on Chestnut Street in Albany, just a block up from Westminster). Pastor Heather Kirk-Davidoff will add some insights about Inness’ spiritual guide, Emanuel Swedenborg. All of us together will share our reactions and connections to the painting.
If you’d like to extend your visit, the Clark’s cafe will be open for lunch and the museum’s galleries will be open until 5:00 pm.
There is a one-hour tour of the permanent collection offered at 11:15 am by reservation. Admission is $20 per person.
Please bring a CDC COVID-19 vaccination card and remember to wear a mask.
