The world can be such a scary place. Let’s build community and strengthen our sense of common purpose by sharing stories with each other. Everyone–absolutely everyone–is welcome to this event on Sunday, October 22nd, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the parking lot of Westminster Presbyterian Church (or inside in case of rain).
3:00 pm: We’ll start indoors with our Conversation Tables where English language learners talk with native speakers and build new friendships along the way.
4:00 pm: We’ll light some fires in portable fire pits spread around our parking lot, toast some marshmallows and share some stories. Each circle will be hosted by a storyteller who will have some prompts to get us talking–and maybe share a few stories of their own. There will be a circle especially for kids and others with Arabic, Spanish, French, and Pashto translators. Plus we’ll have s’mores!
5:00 pm: After an hour or so, we’ll go back indoors and hear some master storytellers share stories of community and connection. Featured storytellers include Aya Mahmoud, Mary Murphy, Claire Nolan, Nancy Marie Payne, and Javed Watanyer.
This event is offered completely free of charge. The Westminster Commons is hosted by the Westminster Presbyterian Church and led by a group of neighbors and friends. Our goal is to help different people and groups in the Capital Region connect to create a sense of common purpose, address problems and enjoy life more. The Commons is supported by the US@250 Fellowship at New America.
