Message: “Disarm”
Our Lenten journey begins with two stories about beginnings–the beginning of a covenant in Genesis and the beginning of Jesus’ ministry in Mark. Neither beginning comes easily. In Genesis, God floods the world and drowns just about everyone. In Mark, Jesus is “driven” into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit. Conflict is part of our story from the beginning. But then again, so is the promise of God’s abiding love.
What can we learn from these ancient stories of how things begin? When does conflict lead to new possibilities and not just to more conflict? In a world where everyone seems to be fighting, how can we be different?
