We are thrilled to announce that Rev. Josh Heikkila will be visiting Westminster from July 25–27! Josh shares a deep, long-standing history with our congregation and our partner churches in Ghana.
Good News and Fresh Vision for Global Partnership
As many in our congregation know, our denomination recently underwent a massive structural shift, eliminating traditional global mission co-worker positions. However, mission is alive and evolving! We are excited to celebrate that Josh has officially transitioned into a new role as Facilitator for the PC(USA) Ghana Mission Network. He is continuing his vital presence on the ground in Ghana, building grassroots, network-supported ways to be a relational bridge and “cultural interpreter” for West Africa.
This comes at a significant moment for our denomination, as the PC(USA) General Assembly just voted overwhelmingly last week to establish a special commission to investigate the structural cuts to World Mission and seek a restorative path forward.
Josh’s visit is a timely opportunity for Westminster to surround a longtime partner with our community’s warmth, hear his exciting vision for the future, and discern how we can take deeper ownership of our global mission partnerships during this new season.
There are two wonderful opportunities to connect with Josh during his weekend here:
- Sunday Worship (July 26): Josh will be our guest preacher during Sunday morning worship at Westminster. Come hear him share reflections from his years of ministry and the changing landscape of global partnership.
- All-Congregation Potluck Lunch: Immediately following worship, the African Missions Committee (AMC) will host a potluck lunch in Josh’s honor. Everyone is invited to stay, catch up, and welcome him back! Please bring a favorite dish to share.
(Note: On Saturday night, members of the African Mission Committee will also gather for a dinner with Josh, hosted by Pastor Heather and Dan in their home.)
