Mark 10:17-31
We welcome The Rev. Holly Haile Thompson, DD, as a special guest preacher the day before Indigenous People’s Day. Rev. Thompson, a trailblazer as the first Native American woman ordained in the PC(USA), will explore the historical context of the church’s relationship with Indigenous peoples, the ongoing impact of colonialism, and the crucial topic of reparations.
Rev. Thompson, a blood member of the Shinnecock Nation, has dedicated her ministry to advocating for racial equity and justice. She has served congregations in Colorado and New York, and has been actively involved in various churchwide committees, including the Racial Equity Advocacy Committee, the Native American Consulting Committee, and the Doctrine of Discovery Speakers Bureau. Even in retirement, she continues to challenge and inspire, recently exploring the concept of an “Anti-Racist Church” during her service at First Presbyterian Church in Potsdam.
Join us for a special Second Hour
Following the service, Rev. Thompson will lead a discussion exploring the ongoing relationships between New York State’s Tribal Nations and their settler neighbors, as well as the interactions between New England’s Tribal Nations and their settler communities.
