Weaving Partnerships for Brighter Futures in West Africa

The African Mission Committee of Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) is pleased to launch our 2026 campaign, “Weaving Partnerships for Brighter Futures in West Africa.” Building on more than two decades of meaningful relationships in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone we remain committed to walking alongside our partners in these countries to envision and support projects aimed at improving the lives and futures of the communities we serve together.

Our efforts will once again be celebrated at the annual African Family Night taking place this year on Saturday, September 26th – an evening of great food, excellent friendship, and renewed commitment to our partnerships and shared projects.

For many years, we have worked with partners in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone to envision and support projects aimed at improving the lives and futures of the communities we serve. Much of our work has been focused on supporting schools, churches, and organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of children.

Raising Support for Our 2026 Initiatives

We aspire to raise $15,000 to support initiatives underway or planned in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone:

Ghana

In Ghana, we enjoy long-standing and productive partnerships with The Home of Care & Protection – a non-governmental organization – as well as two Presbyterian Church of Ghana congregations: Redemption and Greenwich Meridien.  The following are highlights of 2026 initiatives:

  • Completion of a Vocational School building and acquisition of equipment to set-up a bakery and purchase of more sewing machines to facilitate the enrollment of new class of students who are studying tailoring.  The vocational training is designed to equip women with skills that will generate income for their families and general improvements for their community.
  • Menstrual health education for teenage girls.
  • Continued support for the Mama Alice Health Clinic that serves the rural village of Nyitawuta and surrounding areas through the provision of essential medical supplies.
  • Expanded scholarship opportunities for students associated with our partner churches.
Supporting agricultural improvement in the Wudome Peki region by helping to provide land clearing equipment and seedlings to small farmers.
  • A delegation from WPC will be attending the Annual Ghana Mission Network Meeting being held in Superior, Wisconsin from August 13 – 16.

Liberia

In Liberia, we continue the successful partnership with the Kingdom Embassy School, where we are supporting a number of critical health and education initiatives:

  • Providing a hand pump for the community water well.
  • Continuing a popular program of interest-free microloans for the students’ families.
  • Awarding up to 40 full academic scholarships for those in most need.
  • Delivering nutrition services for the youngest students.
  • Supporting a part-time Registered Nurse to tend to basic health challenges faced by students and staff.

School fees and community contributions of cash and labor supplement Westminster’s contributions to ensure the effectiveness of our programs which impact over 250 students.

Sierra Leone

We continue to develop our partnership with the newly established Karbondeh School, which is now operating in a very underserved region. During 2026, the primary initiative is to supply computers for the school library.  We work closely with the school leadership to help identify and meet requirements to best facilitate the learning environment.

Stay tuned for updates. We will be sharing information and updates on our blog page (wpcalbany.org/blog) throughout the coming months as our fundraising progresses to support these projects and the essential services which mean so much to the communities we serve.

Please save the date. We hope you will join us on Saturday, September 26th for the annual African Family Night celebration!
