January Schuyler Inn Project Update

Jan 14, 2026

Again this year, Westminster members showed their generosity through donations to assist Schuyler Inn residents. Throughout December, three separate initiatives took place.

The first was the purchase of 20 blankets and 20 pillows, which are a constant need for the shelter.

Secondly, $25 Walmart gift cards were purchased and presented to 60 families at a Schuyler Inn holiday party. Depending on the number of people in each family, gifts were either $25 or $50.

The final leg of the project was collecting winter wear accessories for the children at Schuyler Inn. Donated items totaled as follows:

  • Children’s gloves/mittens: 50 pairs
  • Hat & glove sets: 9
  • Hats: 33
  • Infant/toddler socks: 52 pairs
  • Children’s socks: 133 pairs
  • Teen-sized sweatshirts: 3
  • And last but not least, beautiful mittens, hand-knit by Margie Mayer: 13 pairs

Monetary donations toward this project will be held to purchase whatever Schuyler Inn deems most urgent for the safety and comfort of the residents.  We will check with them on this in the spring.

I want to say thank you to everyone who donated in any way to this effort, including Kim Deal for the graphic included in the newsletter and worship PowerPoints, and Lynne McKee and Valerie Shanley, who organized, collated, and delivered the winter wear items to Schuyler Inn.

Gratefully,
Gail Garrison
