The African Mission Committee of Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) is pleased to launch our 2025 campaign, “Weaving Partnerships for Brighter Futures in West Africa.” Building on more than two decades of meaningful relationships in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone we remain committed to walking alongside our partners in these countries that also hold personal significance for some in our congregation.
Our efforts will once again be celebrated at the annual African Family Night taking place this year on September 27th – an evening of great food, excellent friendship, and renewed commitment to our partnerships and shared projects.
Partnerships in Action–Highlights from 2024
For many years, we have worked with partners in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone to envision and support projects aimed at improving the lives and futures of the communities we serve. Much of our work has been focused on supporting schools, churches, and organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of children. A highlight from last year was the culmination of a multi-year initiative to open the Mama Alice Health Clinic in the remote community of Nyitawuta, Ghana. This rural clinic serves Nyitawuta and surrounding areas which were previously without access to health care. We provided equipment and supplies and our members visited there during their mission trip to Ghana last fall.
Raising Support for our 2025 Initiatives
This year, one of our remarkable Ghanian partners, Rev. Barbara Asempa of the Home of Care and Protection (HOCAP), has identified a pressing need for vocational development for women in the community of Tokpo, located in a region still recovering from severe flooding. In response, we are sponsoring sewing machines and tailoring instruction to equip women with skills that will generate income for their families and general improvements for their community.
We aspire to raise $15,000 to support this vocational training effort in Ghana and to continue our work at Kingdom Embassy School in Liberia as well as the Karbondeh School in Sierra Leone.
At Kingdom Embassy School, we are supporting several critical initiatives: replacing the school’s leaking roof, providing a hand pump for the community water well, continuing a popular program of interest-free microloans for the students’ families, awarding scholarships for those in most need, and providing nutrition services for the youngest students.
The Karbondeh School in Sierra Leone is sorely in need of desks for the students and we have committed to helping them to provide these essential furnishings.
Stay tuned for updates. We will be sharing information and updates on our blog page (wpcalbany.org/blog) throughout the coming months as our fundraising progresses to support these projects and the essential services which mean so much to the communities we serve.
Please save the date. We hope you will join us on Saturday, September 27th for the annual African Family Night celebration!
