Vigil Refection – June 18…
It was a very hot day! We retreated to the shady part of the sidewalk. There, we unfurled our banner, “Vigil for Racial Justice.” In recent weeks, Elizabeth McMillan has been concerned that the banner has drooped in the middle. What should we do?
She turned to Frank here at Beverwyck, our retirement community home. Frank fixes things, and by adding a string from pole to pole, he fixed our banner, which no longer droops!
The 90-degree day meant fewer folks passed by. However, we were delighted to greet the young woman and her small white dog, who used to be our regular visitors.
Toward the end of the hour, two garbage trucks made their way down State Street. Big, strong men dumped garbage into the gaping jaws, which crushed everything amidst a mighty roar. Why are most garbage men black, I thought, sitting in the seat of my walker and sipping ice water Elizabeth had brought along.
Maybe it will be cooler next Tuesday at 12 noon – join us.
