Wendell Berry and the Sabbath Poetry of Lent: A Time of Reflection

During this time together we will use sabbath poems to reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world.

In-person only
In the Welles Room and throughout our church building

* UPDATE *

In light of low registration, Rev. McMillan and Pastor Heather have decided to modify Saturday’s Lenten Retreat schedule. We’ll spend just an hour or so together, starting at 9:00 am with scones and coffee or tea. We’ll read and reflect on some of Wendell Berry’s beautiful Sabbath poems together. No experience with poetry is necessary or assumed—these are simple poems in plain English, rooted in images from nature. Please come by and join us; there is no need to register.

Wendell Berry is an American poet, novelist, farmer, and environmentalist who knows the values of the sabbath, a time when we pause and reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world. Rev. McMillan and Pastor Heather will use some of Berry’s sabbath poems to guide our reflection and our practice. Together we’ll prepare some ground for whatever seed God may want to sow in us.
