Building Partnerships for Brighter Futures

What comes to mind when you think of Lois Wilson? An inspirational leader? An advocate with a passion for making a difference in West African Mission Work? A supportive friend? In truth, she is all these things, and more.

After nearly two decades of extraordinary vision, leadership, and achievement, Lois Wilson has stepped down as Chairperson of the African Mission Committee at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Albany, NY. Over these many years, Lois has championed the development of successful mission partnerships in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone aimed to achieve shared goals of improving the lives of impoverished children through access to essential health and education services vital to their futures.

A special campaign to honor Lois’s legacy of West African mission work

As Westminster’s African Mission Committee, we are inspired by Lois’s vision to improve the lives of children in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Her belief in the importance of the teamwork approach of the Committee has been steadfast. To honor and continue her legacy of work in these countries, we are concentrating our fundraising efforts in 2022 on a special appeal. Our theme is “Honoring Lois Wilson: Building Partnerships for Brighter Futures” and our goal is to raise $25,000 through this special campaign.

Together with our partners, we have built wells, provided hundreds of scholarships, obtained training grants, established a microloans program, funded a school nurse, shipped textbooks and vital school supplies, subsidized both classroom and health clinic construction, outfitted computer laboratories, and much more.

But these West African mission projects alone are not at the heart of Lois’s legacy. Her impact is found in the true friendships and mutual respect our congregation and these communities have come to know. Through mission delegation visits to West Africa, as well as frequent contact via phone and internet, we have come to form strong and honest partnerships. Our partners tell us how critical our support has been and, through our partnerships, we have enriched and even saved many young lives.

We are honoring Lois through this appeal that will serve as a meaningful tribute to her many years of dedication to improving the lives of children in impoverished communities. Your donations will ensure that we can continue to provide vital educational resources, health services, clean water, and essential nutrition programs where they are most needed. Together, we can change lives.

Please join us! Donations are gratefully accepted.

We hope you will join us in honoring Lois with your generous support. Our goal is to raise $25,000 through this special campaign. Contributions are most gratefully accepted online (wpcalbany.org/give) or by sending your check to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 85 Chestnut St. Albany, NY 12210 (“West African Mission” on the memo line).
