Westminster Church was thrilled to have friends and supporters gather once again in-person for African Family Night on Saturday, September 30th. At Westminster, we hold a deep commitment to West African mission work, where, together with our partners, we are helping to build a brighter future for vulnerable children.
We shared a special evening – joining with old and new friends, enjoying fabulous food, being entertained by African drumming and dancing, and viewing colorful attire during a fun fashion show. We also heard from our Guest Speaker, Robert Quaye, about his recent family trip to the remote village of Nyitawuta, in his home country of Ghana, where we work with a mission partner to support the opening of the Mama Alice Health Clinic as well as clean water projects, and more.
Thanks to generous donors, we hope to exceed our goal of raising $15,000 during 2023 to support transformative health and education services for children in West Africa – specifically Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone!
Your donations ensure that we can continue to provide vital educational resources, health services, clean water, and essential nutrition programs in impoverished communities where they are most needed.
With the support of your generous donations, and by working with local partners in West Africa we have collaborated on a range of projects addressing shared priorities including:
- Opening a health clinic in an isolated, rural community in Ghana
- Establishing computer lab classrooms
- Organizing a year-round feeding program, offering free meals to dozens of preschoolers and kindergarten-aged children
- Delivering quarterly food supplies to a school and orphanage in Sierra Leone
- Providing education scholarships for needy students
- Supporting a part-time nurse at a school in rural Liberia
- Offering microloans and sending used clothing for resale in local open-air markets
- Shipping menstrual hygiene supplies to help keep girls in school
