Vigil for Racial Justice Update, October 2023

Oct 25, 2023

Tuesday, October 24 was a good day along State Street. Across the street neighbors were again at work on their homes. On the sidewalks some hurried along while we unfurled our banner, set up our beach chairs, held our signs and enjoyed each other’s company.

The day was clear but chilly enough that Pastor Heather went home to get her coat. Mabel and David held the banner. Elizabeth and Judy walked to and fro with their signs held high. Paul and Margaret sat while holding theirs, one of which Margaret bought when we attended Archie’s program at the Library on Delaware Avenue.

Heather returned, warm now. Ned joined us, cheerful as always.

Many walked by on this good day. Some were careful not to see us. Others might give us a thumbs up while a few said “Thank you.” One young man took our picture. Drivers honked their horns in our support. It was a good day.

Elizabeth passed out small chocolate bars and, after a while, suggested it was time to roll up the banner and be on our way. Reflecting on the day, Paul observed that our witness encouraged others to stand for racial justice.

Four Tuesdays remain until Thanksgiving when we put away our signs for winter – join us when you can.
